The new mechanism is 3x faster than before.
#SOFTRAID WINDOWS 10 DRIVER#
The re-engineered SoftRAID driver features a new method of handling TRIM commands on SSDs. FreeNAS is da king! But then you're limited to network speed, which is typically around 100MBytes/sec.SoftRAID 6.2 adds support for the all-new macOS 12 – Monterey.įor the first time ever, SoftRAID supports the creation, management, and monitoring of APFS volumes and enables access to encrypted APFS volumes created with Disk Utility 1 To think about it what happens if your main computer dies that had configuration for Storage Spaces?.
#SOFTRAID WINDOWS 10 INSTALL#
I will just have to use another box, install FreeNAS, connect same drives and restore config from backup. On the other hand I have FreeNAS with 5 drives in it and since I have configuration backed up I'm fairly certain that I will be able to get my data back if the box fails. I have a 4-bay G-Raid here and I also expect to have a problem if the enclosure kicks the bucket. If LaCie dies I strongly suspect you need another identical one and even then I'm not sure if it will work. It should be enough for Windows to see them as separate drives. You don't have to use exactly same enclosure. I think that you just need to figure another way to connect all your drives back to your PC and Storage Spaces should be able to recover. If I understand how Storage Spaces work correctly they may have an advantage here. If the enclosure dies you need to find another identical one and even then I'm not sure you'll have your data back. I was definitely in the market for a budget solution for the leftoversīTW the RAID protects against a disk failure but less so from enclosure failure.

I guess my big question is should I work with the options they gave me or just return the drive and try again with a Pegasus or something? Thanks! I've been working for a couple of core clients for a while who all have their own enterprise storage systems, it's only been since the pandemic that I started picking up smaller clients who do not, so this my first experience archiving projects on my own. Again, is anyone using the SoftRAID beta? Any thoughts? Bad idea? Open beta isn't the most assuring phrase when it comes to critical data storage, but everything I have is already backed up, just not in very safe or long term way. Does anyone here have experience using this? Do you recommend it? Alternatively, they sent me a link to sign up for a SoftRAID open beta that supports RAID 5 on Windows.

Anyway, they sent me instructions how to format the drives to be used in RAID 5 with Windows' built in StorageSpaces. That's what their technical support confirmed, though.

I'm sure it's possible that I missed it, but in all my research the Thunderbay 4 with the SoftRAID software it comes with was marketed as RAID 5 ready, not RAID 5 ready *but only on Mac OS.
